Scandimate on shark tank
In 2023 we caught the attention of investers on the danish version of Shark Tank called “Lions den” and got two invensters on our board.
Jesper Buch is founder of JustEat, one of the world’s largest food delivery companies (called MenuLog in Australia).
Morten Larsen is founder and former CEO of Hungy.dk which was sold to Delivery Hero for a multi-million dollar amount.
They both have tons of experience in building online platforms and they are a massive asset to ScandiMate.
Frequently asked questions
What are the qualifications of the tradesmen?
All ScandiMate candidates are fully qualified tradespeople – equivalent to a Journeyman level.
They have completed 4 years and 6 months of formal trade education and apprenticeship training in Scandinavia and have solid on-site experience before coming to Australia.
Our Scandinavian tradies typically have experience from residential, commercial and industrial construction, and most are used to high safety standards, reading plans, and working independently on Australian-style projects.
Are you a labour hire company?
No. ScandiMate is not a labour hire company.
You hire the tradesperson directly via their TFN or ABN, just like any other employee or subcontractor. This means:
- You choose who works on your sites.
- You control pay rates, hours and conditions.
- You build a direct relationship with the worker instead of going through a labour hire middleman.
We simply handle the recruitment and relocation of Scandinavian tradies so you can plug into a reliable talent pool without labour hire mark-ups.
Which trades does ScandiMate supply?
We supply most major building and construction trades needed on Australian worksites, including (but not limited to):
- Carpenters & joiners
- Electricians
- Plumbers
- Concreters & formworkers
- Bricklayers & blocklayers
- Roofers
- Painters
- HVAC / refrigeration mechanics
- Welders & metal fabricators
- Boilermakers
- +10 more trades
Our network of Scandinavian tradespeople is growing every month.
If you need a specific trade or niche skill set, let us know – we’ll help you source the right candidate for your project anywhere in Australia.
What happens if the candidate isn’t the right fit?
We operate on a simple “No fit, no fee” policy.
You get a 4-week trial period with the candidate on your site. If, for any reason, the tradesperson is not the right fit for your team, you pay nothing.
The $1,000 AUD recruitment fee is only charged after a successful 4-week trial, once you’re happy with the worker’s skills, attitude and reliability.
What’s the catch – how can it only be $1,000 AUD?
There is no catch – we just don’t work like a traditional recruitment agency.
Our business model is two-sided:
- Candidates purchase a work-and-travel package with us (flights, White Card, bank account, TFN, accommodation on arrival, job matching, etc.).
- Employers pay only a flat $1,000 AUD recruitment fee per successful hire after the 4-week trial.
Because candidates pay for the relocation package, we can keep your recruitment costs low while still providing pre-vetted, qualified Scandinavian tradespeople ready to work in Australia.
Do I have to sponsor the candidates?
No. You do not need to sponsor the candidates.
All workers arrive on a Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417) which allows them to live and work in Australia legally, so you can hire them like any other local worker or subcontractor.
If you are interested in long-term sponsorship later (e.g. to keep a great tradie in your business), let us know – we can match you with candidates who are actively seeking sponsorship opportunities and point you in the right direction.
What is the minimum length of employment?
There is no minimum employment period.
You decide whether you want to hire Scandinavian tradesmen for:
- Short-term or seasonal work (peak periods, project deadlines, labour shortages)
- Medium-term assignments
- Long-term roles if both you and the tradie are happy
The flexibility of Working Holiday Visa holders means you can scale your workforce up or down without signing long contracts or being locked into labour hire agreements.
Why are the candidates all from Scandinavia?
We specialise exclusively in Scandinavian tradespeople (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, etc.).
This niche focus allows us to offer:
- Consistently high trade skills and training standards
- A strong work ethic and safety culture
- Excellent English and easy communication on site
- A work culture that fits well with Australian construction teams
By focusing on Scandinavia only, we maintain quality, reliability and cultural fit for Australian, New Zealand and Canadian employers.
Can I manage everything through the platform?
Yes. The ScandiMate platform lets you manage the whole process in one place:
- Browse pre-vetted Scandinavian candidates
- Filter by trade, experience, location and availability
- Schedule interviews online
- Send job offers directly through the platform
- Track your hires and upcoming arrivals
It’s designed to make it easy for construction companies in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada to hire qualified overseas tradespeople—without endless emails, admin, or paperwork.
How much do I pay the candidate?
You decide.
You negotiate pay rates directly with the tradesperson, based on:
- The candidate’s trade, experience and responsibilities
You make a job offer you’re comfortable with. The tradesmen decides whether they accept or not – just like any other hire in your business.
